Game Update: Version 1.2.1

Players who were already at level 50 should start to level up as they perform actions, depending on how much XP they've earned since reaching 50.

To clarify this a little - no progress is lost for those already at Level 50. XP is checked when you take actions, so although you're currently at Level 50, you may have the XP for Level 60. Each time you take an action, the game sees you have enough XP to level up, and you level up. After enough actions, you'll have gained the levels you already have the XP for, and then will progress as normal.

Game Update: Version 1.2.1
Posted

Updates

  • Added a My Housing widget to the dashboard, that will allow players to easily access their current house or rest/relax.
  • Added a new Hospital widget to the dashboard, allowing access to the Hospital page. Over time most infrastructure will be given their own widget, including relevant quick actions and repair buttons. As infrastructure get their own widgets (like hospitals in this update), they will no longer appear in the generic "Region Infrastructure" widget.
  • Company managers can now set a cap on the number of times a worker can work for them each day (under Edit Company). This applies per citizen per company - so setting it to 4, would allow any citizen to spend their entire 100AP working 4 times in one day. This setting defaults to 2 for all companies. Although it is possible to set this to 0, the setting is only checked when a citizen has already worked at least once (so a setting of 0 is treated as 1).
  • Removed the Presidential Address feature, as it was largeley unused.
  • Removed the Quick Actions module, as these actions are now dynamically displayed on the dashboard.
  • Updated resources market to highlight the resources your company uses in green.
  • Updated the player levelling system to use an algorithm instead of preset XP amounts, effectively removing the cap on citizen levels. Players who were already at level 50 should start to level up as they perform actions, depending on how much XP they've earned since reaching 50.
  • Added a new AP Recharge Timer bar to the user widget. This bar will provide a visual cue to when you should receive your next AP.
  • Added an upgraded CEO Module to replace the old Company Manager. This is currently still a work in progress, and some features still require the old company manager.
  • Staff roster in the CEO Module now shows a workers salary as the amount they were paid for their most recent shift.

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed the bug causing seemingly random 500 / 520 server errors across the game.
  • Fixed a bug causing UI modules to break onto a new line unnecessarily.
  • Fixed a bug preventing users from reading the tooltips on the resources marketplace.
  • Fixed players not being able to run for congress from regions with less than 5 population (congress seats have been based on national population, not regional, for some time already).
  • Fixed a critical bug causing congress elections to not be finalized since June 2020. All nations should now have the correct congress as voted on October 15th.
  • Fixed the Sports Arena not showing who started a heat to players currently registered for the heat.
  • Fixed a bug causing all workers to be listed as having never worked in the CEO Module/Company Manager.

Known Issues

  • The Rest/Relax button on the new housing widget is displayed regardless of whether it can be used. This is not intended, and should be fixed in the next update.
  • Infrastructure daily integrity decay has been temporarily paused, while we review the function of each available infrastructure.

Game Update: Version 1.2.0
Posted

Updates

  • Presidential Election results are now automatically processed shortly after polls close. There may initially still be delays of up to 24 hours as we monitor the new system for any bugs, but this should quickly be reduced to 1-2 hours max. (Before this update, election results had to be manually triggered by a dev/admin).
  • Military Module has now been fully converted to the Action Points (AP) system. Initially, every military action will cost 1 AP per attack. Yes, this means everyone has the option of spending a full 100 AP on attacks if they choose - though this will prevent them from working or training.
  • Quick Action buttons linked to actions that cost AP are now dynamically displayed. If you do not have sufficient AP to perform the action, the button will disapear until your AP has recovered. This will dynamically update even if you do not reload the page.
  • Currency exchange rates are now determined by the amount of currency in circulation and the amount of VBX held in the treasury.
  • Greatly increased the inflation cap, allowing for more realistic market effects.
  • Added a new Instant Sale feature to the currency exchange. This feature is available for currencies valued at or below 0.001 VBX (the cost of printing currency). Currency is sold at the current exchange rate, and is always sold for VBX.
  • Company manager now indicates the number of available purchase orders and stock on the relevant tabs.
  • When buying resources for a company, if the company cannot afford to buy all the resources you order, it will still purchase the resources it can afford. Previously this would result in an error message, forcing the player to re-attempt the purchase.
  • Began work on new AI NPC system. In the near future, these AI citizens will encourage activity by taking part in traditional daily tasks and consuming a small amount of products from the market. This is the first step in a transformational upgrade that will change the way the game is played.

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed an issue preventing Military industry items from being trashed.
  • Fixed broken page displayed after filling a purchase order from the company manager.

Known Issues

  • There is a configuration issue with the new server that is causing intermittent 500/520 Server Errors (primarily while browsing the game). We are well aware of this issue, and are investigating to determine the source of the problem. If you encounter these errors, a simple refresh of your browser should successfully load the page you're trying to access.

Updates

  • Military Training has now been added to the Action Point system. Military training now requires 20 AP.
  • More Dark Mode theme improvements by @Zoltan.
  • Added a new Purchase Orders tab to the Company Manager. This tab shows purchase orders for products your active company sells.

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed UI issues with the Citizen Stats widget (top-right of each game page). You may need to clear your browser cache to see the changes. If you've cleared your cache and are still seeing broken bars, scrollbar, or other UI issues, please provide a screenshot and let us know the browser you use, and your screen resolution.
  • Fixed inconsistent database collation, which could cause error messages in some obscure circumstances.
  • Fixed tabs not working on citizen profiles and party page.
  • Fixed incorrect error message shown when visiting the Gym with insufficient AP to workout.
  • Fixed Nation -> Diplomacy always showing treaties held by your citizens nation, even when viewing foreign nations.

thanks, btw there is a helpdesk ticket about something else it's not urgent but i don't see how i can edit it and add that the same issue is with the welcome message, I don't want to write another one 😆  I apologize for the spam, (I have no idea if you are getting messages for a new ticket in the helpdesk) 😀

No need for another ticket 🙂 Most likely the same bug is affecting both places, so both should get fixed at the same time. You should be able to click into the ticket and add a new reply (though I've only used this system from the "admin" side so I'm not 100% sure). And it's meant to send me an email for every new ticket but doesn't seem to be, I'll need to fix that too lol

it's even worse now

Screenshot_2020-08-28_09-43-14.png

There seems to be an issue with these progressbars and Firefox at the moment. Not really sure why when they work perfectly in Chrome (sizing issues should even be fixed now). We're still working on it though.

Edit: Looks like we found the problem, it should now be working in all browsers/screen resolution. Might need to clear browser cache if you're still seeing issues

a long time ago one of the former vice presidents (recycled_bin) after a long absence from the game wrote to me PM that he misses vbx/money and  companies the exact words were: everything is reset
his companies that sold on the market at a certain price and quantity have become 'National Stockpile' and this is not the only case, I just stopped being interested in bugs because I didn't see the point, it was the same with the battles I told you that the battles 'the battle is over' and this continues somewhere around 2 weeks but you said the script works fine, now at least that's fixed thanks for that.

BTW where to write tickets for bugs if we notice such?

Just checked the Inactives script and looks like you're right. IDK what the hell I was thinking when I made that change, but it's been fixed now. If people returning to the game after a long absense (90+ days) find they're missing VBX/companies, they should send in a ticket with details they've got. I can't guarantee at this point how much I'll be able to restore (companies are unlikely, but can hopefully at least restore the cost of the companies).

Tickets should be sent via the Support link: https://www.vnations.net/support/

Changelog - August 4th (vDay 2712)
Posted

Updates

  • Infrastructure will now decay by 1% each day (updating around midday gametime). This had been intended since infrastructure was added to the game, but was apparently never implemented. This decay rate will likely be updated to be more dynamic in the future.
  • It is now possible to end a war as the defending nation, where the attacking nation no longer controls any regions.
  • Military Commendations are now visible on citizen profiles. The dashboard now also shows the breakdown of commendations across each class, rather than just the total number of commendations earned.
  • Working is the first action to be transitioned to the Action Point (AP) system. Each work shift will currently consume 25 AP, allowing citizens to work multiple times a day if they choose. Other actions currently consume AP, but are still limited to once per day. These will be transitioned fully to the AP system in future updates.
  • Updated the skill multiplier for gym and military skill training to better suit the new 0-1000 skill range. Most players should notice significantly increased skill gains.
  • Removed the Citizen Overview page, as this was displaying essentially the same information as your own citizen profile.
  • Added a new Wallet page, showing the various currencies you currently possess. You can access your transaction log for each currency via this page.
  • Retired the in-game private message feature, as the new community website provides a much better private message experience.
  • API endpoints now provide data in JSON by default. XML feeds are still available by appending the feed with /xml (eg https://play.vnations.net/api/citizen/name/Darkmyre/xml). Documentation on the available endpoints will be added to the website in the near future.
  • Removed the ability to change citizen name, email or password from the game UI. These account features should all be managed via the website from now on. This currently means citizen name changes do not have the previous VBX charge, however they can only be performed once every 30 days. This may change in the future.

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed a bug preventing wars from automatically ending where the aggressor can no longer afford the daily cost.
  • Removed ghost stock from marketplace (appearing as 'National Stockpile' but unable to be purchased). These were not National Stockpile stocks, but bugged data from deleted companies that was being incorrectly displayed.
  • Military Base supply feature now respects the updated inventory limits, allowing supply to soldiers with more than 50 items in their inventory.
  • Fixed daily login rewards using outdated skill caps to determine reward possibilities. Players with skills above 250 should now again receive daily login reward bonuses.
  • Fixed a number of issues preventing the API endpoints from being accessed.

What about working skills? Are they still gonna be capped?

The work formulas are a bit trickier than the sports/military ones, which were always designed to be scalable. Looking into increasing work skill caps (and possibly updating the formulas), but prioritising some bug fixes first.

  • Replaced the classic Media Module with the new Media section of the website.

  • Fixed a bug causing Military skills above 300 to be reset to 300 after yesterdays skill cap increase.
  • Patched a criticial bug that could affect completing Infrastructure projects. If you encounter an error while working on an infrastructure project, please report the exact error message received.

After further investigation, I'm happy to announce we have a system in place to unify accounts between the new website and the existing game. Please follow the directions below, depending on whether or not you've already created an account on the new website (where you're reading this):

I already created my new account:

  • Click your name in the top-right, and select Account Settings.
  • On the menu to the left, select Game Login
  • Enter your game login details

You can now use either method to login to the website. If you change your display name or email here, it will automatically be synced in-game.

I don't have a new account yet:

  • DO NOT sign up on the new website (or do, and then follow the steps above).
  • Instead, LOGIN and enter your in-game login details. The system will automatically create you a synced account (you may be prompted to fill in some missing profile fields).

I've never played Virtual Nations before:

  • Click the sign up button. You will be redirected to the game UI to create your game account, which can then be used to login to the game or this website.

Support System Open
Posted

The new support system is now officially open. Currently it can be accessed via the "Support" top-level menu item (the menu layout is still a WIP so its position may change, but it will always be labelled Support), or directly at https://www.vnations.net/support/

When raising a support ticket, please be sure to select the most appropriate department and severity. If you're encountering a specific error message, or a feature is not working correctly, raise a Bug Report. If you're having issues with any part of your account, including issues with citizen stats, personally owned companies, orgs, etc, raise an Account Issue.

If you're requesting Nation Support, you will need to declare the current government position you hold in the relevant nation (if you hold multiple positions, list the highest). As many nations are currently running with very limited governments, at this stage any citizen may lodge a request for nation support. However, we will consider the context of the request VS the position held in government before deciding to action or reject the request.

Most issues should be lodged with Normal severity. An issue is only considered Critical if it prevents you from accessing the game entirely (cant login, error message on every page, etc), if it prevents anyone from accessing a feature/module (everyone getting the same error message, page not loading for anyone, etc), or if it is related to security in any way (you've been hacked, found an exploitable bug, found a multi, etc). Minor issues, or things you don't mind waiting for can optionally be reported at Low severity.

If a bug has previously been posted anywhere but this support system, and hasn't already been fixed, it's probably best to assume its been lost and report it again.

New Community Website (WIP)
Posted

Welcome to the new community website! Over the next few days this will be steadily fleshed out to form a new community hub for vNations moving into the future. As stated in my previous in-game article, this is the first step on a long roadmap to bring our beloved game into modern times. While this roadmap will eventually lead to a "reset", it is not anticipated that this will occur before Q2 2021 at the absolute earliest. I wasn't kidding when I said "long roadmap", but considering the historic tension over the topic of a reset, I feel its only fair to let everyone know it'll eventually happen. This is also not to be mistaken for a release date, though - it is entirely possible it'll be 2022 before we're at the end point. There's a lot of work to be done, the plan is ambitious, and the world is far from predictable.

I'm incredibly thankful for the support many of you have given for a long, long time - I'm not sure there are sufficient words to convey this fully. It's been years since I've managed to care for the game adequately, and yet many of you have persisted, nursing countries through bugs, working, training, keeping in touch. Seeing this dedication and commitment has been a significant motivator for this new development plan. While I mentioned the dreaded R-word above, in truth when "vNations 2.0" launches, it'll be with its own unique database. I hope that the eventual product will be of sufficient quality that those still with us can't resist transitioning, but I'll continue to keep the current game environment functional for any who'd rather continue with it. I owe you all that much as an absolute minimum.

I'll have more information to share as we move forward, but for right now it's almost 4am and I've still got a few initial setup things to get done, so I think we'll leave it there for now.

Please Note:

  • You will need to register again on this new website.
  • Your display name must match your in-game name. You may need to edit your account settings after signing up with a third-party provider. Impersonating other players will result in a permanent ban, no exceptions.
  • It is advisable to use the same email address as you currently use, but not required. This will enable faster account linking in the future. There is no ETA at this stage for account linking.
  • You will currently need to login seperately to this website, and to the game UI (using your existing vNations account) at https://play.vnations.net
  • It may take up to a week before all sections of the new site are operational. Please bear with me during this time, as there's quite a bit to setup. At this early transition stage, please do not report bugs with the game unless they're security or VBX related. I'll have a post outlining the new bug reporting/support features posted no later than July 25th.
  • If you have any issues registering, logging in, or using the new website, please get in touch on discord. I'll reply as soon as possible (though obviously this might be a while due to timezones and such).
