Yeah I'm somewhat in a limbo about these too, it's ok to have effects on happ/health and stuff like that, but when you can't boost your happiness at all, it can ruin your possibilities for a whole day.

Maybe we could instead use a somewhat less dramatic effect, like the drinks would give less happiness or something like that.

One thing I'd previously considered was attaching a small AP cost to eating/drinking. This was quickly shelved when AP was so small to begin with, but maybe 1 AP/item consumed is reasonable with a max 200 AP pool?

Not sure I follow you, is this for every occasion when you use them, or just when you have a negative bonus from a random event?

I was initially thinking every time you use them, but that's probably not a good change.
