Introducing: Research 14 0

To combat the growing zombie threat, Z.E.R.O. operatives have been hard at work in Universities across the vWorld, establishing a dedicated area within each University to conduct research. Research will allow nations to unlock improvements and bonuses, and will be expanded over time.

Currently, all nations can research two projects - a National Vaccine to help themselves, or a Global Cure to help all nations. As the cure is global, all research towards this project will be counted together, with the overall progress appearing on the dashboard sometime after daychange.

For day 273, all citizens will be able to conduct research regardless of other actions. From day 274 onwards, research will be considered a 'service role', meaning citizens will need to choose between research or working at a hospital/university. It should be noted that a future update will consider 'service roles' and working in a company to both be 'working', meaning citizens will need to choose between work, research, or hospital/uni shifts.

The current formula for research is: log(intelligence)*((happiness+health)/10) - as always, this formula may be adjusted as needed for balancing purposes.

Research can be conducted once per day. For the zombie event, citizens can freely choose between the two research goals. When further research goals are added, university deans will need to open an available goal for research within their university.

Can a wiki editor please add this information to the wiki? A new Research page should be added, with references on the University page.

Maguilao Nope, the zombie targeting script is getting stuck on one nation and I haven't had a chance to take a look at it yet.

Darkmyre Maybe the fix mistakenly affected all nations, not just the ones that researched the cure. Could it be it?

Issue has been fixed, viewing the university should unlock the vaccine if you've researched it.

There is a known issue with researching National Cure not stopping the Zombie attacks - I am aware of this and working on a fix. In the meantime, if you've researched 5000 pts towards the National Cure, you do not need to research further - the cure will be applied as soon as the fix is complete.

jany thanx for tagging me. I do not know If you follow the whole discussion about research. Apart of a cool feature, technically research (I think) is intented to be used as productivity sink in the future. In plain words, people will choose to work and produce products or work and produce research.
Professor and Doctor are a bit different cases, because they produce something that is not necessarily used, but research is definitely used and afaik there will be an employer in the future for the researchers, while doctors and professors are self employed!
I believe it is an interesting thing to put some dilemas. If nobody works as doctor, then If I work as a doctor I can raise the healing prices, so profit profit! Economy needs balance, balance is also(not only) a matter of hard choices, because it is not economy If everyone has everything anytime in any quantity, the same way we can have no wars If everyone has everything he wants.

PS Doctor, Professor and Engineer, are all scientists, no doubt.
PS2 Keep in mind that there are so many kinds of engineers, like, genetic engineers!
PS3 The difference of service skill jobs(doc prof eng) with the manu, gath, build skill is that they do not produce a real product(object). We may introduce doc skill, eng skill, prof skill, but I think it is no necessary.

Darkmyre After "research" you cannot work as a doctor because of this message:

"You have already performed a service today. You must wait until tomorrow to work again."

It means research= a kind of service. Metralla is right.

or alternatively give a possibility to work as a doctor (there will be no doctors in hospitals after a while), and give -1 happiness/health after research (we should facilitate the economy anyway)

Engineer has no role but we studied this. Please convert engineer to scientist or whatsoever.

Darkmyre no matter how it is called, to my eyes service skill is the work skill for professors, engineers and doctors.

Metralla Not really, its tied to the service role for now, but its not actually serving other citizens which is what the service skill is used for.

Service skill should also play a role, right?
We should also escape from log function, it does not work well imho.
